Error every other morning when I come in.

I am getting a E074 Err CR2 Current every other morning when I come in to my VJ 1604.
The machine is put in standby mode every night before I go home and runs faultless during the day.
If I turn off the machine and turn back on the error has gone.
Should I clean the encoder strip with some isopropyl alcohol? I hate touching the strip as I do not want to damage it.

Thanks

The encoder strip would be the most likely cause of those 74 error codes. The carriage head might be having a hard time finding it's way on and off the capping station.
The strip can be cleaned without too much worry just don't be too rough with it.
I keep a brand new one on hand in case the errors don't want to go away with a good cleaning.

As an alternative you could just come in on the odd (or even) days that the error does not show up......

turn off printer and manually move your carriage left and right through and through observe or feel it if there is something heavy or interrupting the movement, it should be moving smoothly. that error occurs when something preventing your carriage to move in a correct data value. hth.

Meee to!

Hello!

I am having a horrible time with my VJ-1618 and this error! it occurs every time I start up the machine. It will start going thru the startup routine, say "initializing", but then start beeping with this error. It is so frustrating. I have cleaned the encoder strip, t-fence, and everything around those 2 areas. I can move the carriage from the cap station to the other end with no obstacles or resistance. There is no noticeable noise coming from the motor.

Anyone with any ideas on how to solve this I would appreciate the help so much!!!

Knight, I would check your head gap.........Your service tech should have the jig needed to set the height.
