Exterior illuminated box sign design update

Hey,

I need to change a couple of print on a illuminated exterior box and I was wondering If I can reuse the old plexiglass by removing the old graphic or its too much of a pain and I need to buy a new one ?

99% of the time it's more cost effective to get new

expensive is relative.

Depending how long the old graphics have been on, it is our experience that shop rate for removal trumps cost of new material.
Plus ghosting can be an issue.

exactly. you will spend all day removing little pieces of burnt up vinyl off it. You end up with a yellowish substrate with white areas were the vinyl was (ghosting) and a bunch of scratches all over the face from trying to scrub all the vinyl adhesive off of it. And if the panel is really old it might just shatter as soon as you begin working on it. We had a 10x5 once that a client wanted to re-use. Sent the bucket truck out to bring it back. It arrived and when they were carrying it in it literally crumbled into pieces. The previous sign guy used acrylic instead of lexan. the acrylic was so burnt up and brittle from the sun it just crumbled like an eggshell. Then the client complained and said the face was in perfect condition when it left his location. Big problem.

Plus one for new.
Another problem with trying to remove the graphics,
even if the plastic is old and brittle anyways, you break it , you replace it on your own dime.

We used to try to remove graphics from pan faces, but got burned too many times.

Not your problem, your customer is the one that will be paying for it, just my world view.

Unless the faces are almost new, replace

Replace. Unless it's new and the vinyl is newer it's going to be a pain to remove. Not to mention possible ghosting on the plexi. Safer bet is to buy new. It may sound expensive to buy. But it will take you 5x more labor to remove the old vinyl. Labor is expensive that's where we make the majority of our money.
