Faux 3d

I was waiting in line at DQ getting my wife a cone (I eat Carvel Ice Cream, not DQ Ice milk) and I always like their use of type, even if it is over done.

I love 3D type and they have a clever faux 3D that works amazingly well. Solid type on dark background with a white outline moved to the right and lowered. It just looks so good from a distance, it gives the optical illusion of dimension and can be two colors.

This is my sample.

That's a nice type treatment,I like bevels, split, blended shades even convex. I'm going to work on a cross hatch type blending or shadow.kind of like this on the next job. And yes the weeding would be a pain unless it was 12'' or so Buy the way,has Stevo made a tutorial on blended shades in the premium section?

I was drawn to them because it is so simple, clever, complete. It is a visual thing, your mind fakes shading; which is quite interesting. In typography you often hear a lot of psycho mumbo jumbo pertaining to flat fonts, but this is real and applicable!
