Trying to diagnose what's wrong with my Roland VersaCamm SP-540i printer. The printer is two and a half years old and gets average use. Any help would be appreciated. Here's what happens:
1) I load up a very light roll of material, so weight on the rollers isn't an issue.
2) I turn on the machine.
3) It self cleans then scans the material for width.
4) It feeds the media forward to the sensor then back a tiny bit.
5) Roughly 1 second after it feeds back and forth (rollers are done moving at this point) there is a grinding noise coming from the feed motor.
6) Feed motor error 0004 pops up on the screen and it asks me to turn off the power.
Anyone know why it would grind and give an error when the rollers aren't even trying to move? A couple months ago I was having this issue intermittently but then it kinda went away, now it doesn't want to stop happening.
I don't care for our local tech so thought I'd check here for advice first. Thanks!
