Flat Cone Stencil

I've had this one sitting at my desk for a few months.... I have all the tools to do it, just don't know how to make the dang template!

Does anyone know how to take the exact measurements/angles one would get from here:

http://craig-russell.co.uk/demos/cone_calculator/

And make a template for cutting in Illustrator?

I'm trying to make a stencil that could be used for spray painting a road cone. Using this, I could make it a perfect fit.... if I were good with Illustrator. Since I'm not, I was wondering if anyone knows how to get me from point A to point B?

It's not a big deal if I can't do it, but I was curious if anyone here could.

I did something similar but didn't have the handy dandy calculator.
I used Corel (it's easier to do pie segments with the ellipse tool) but should be easily doable in Illy.

Measure the diameter of the hole in the top of the cone (straight across to the outer edge) put that into "length A"
Same for the bottom opening (down to how far you want the stencil to go to the base) "Length B"
The vertical distance between your top and bottom measuring points "length C"
Run the calc & note the results.

In AI
Draw a horizontal line segment
Duplicate the line and rotate using the arc angle result from the calc
Draw two circles with the radius measurements' from the calc. Both circles center point would be snapped to the intersection of the two line segments.
The wedge formed from the 4 objects would be your template.
You could use the shape building tool or path ops to make a closed path.

Thanks Wayne! I'll see if I can accomplish that with my limited Illustrator knowledge. You certainly understood the question though!

I was having the hardest time picturing exactly what these stencils would look like flat... now I see from what you posted. It's pretty handy to be able to do it right. I'm a runner myself and know a lot of people who are race directors with extensive cone collections.... lol
