Need Help Flexi 10.5 Program Manager Locking Up

After long inactivity I got my Vinyl Express R 2 hooked up. I'm running Windows Vista Home. Using Flexi 10.5. When I send a job to the cutter, it initialized moving the cutting head, then just locks up the Program Manager. Any ideas would be appreciated!

What do you mean it locks up? Does the program freeze in windows? I switched over to "vinylmaster cut" and i cut so much smoother now.

From program manager (finally got it working) send test to cutter. The cutter head moves to start the cut (about 2 seconds) then it doesn't continue with the cut and Windows freezes including all programs, keys and mouse. Have to turn off to clear it.

Since Windows Vista seems to be locking up on you. What are the specs of your computer? Vista Home 32 or 64 bit? How much ram?

Depending on both of those answers, may need to change Vista's theme to Classic theme and even change the start menu to the classic menu. So it looks like it's a Win 9x OS. Vista is notoriously resource hog. I had all kinds of issues with the 64 bit version with low resources. Since I run the 32 bit version in a VM with maxed out ram, no issues at all, in fact quite stable even with running Aero.

Another thing that might help is to remove non essential startup programs using MSConfig (not really what it was designed for (permanently disable startup programs), but it works for this).

This may not be the solution, but whenever someone is running Vista and having freezes, I suggest this first. I liked Vista over XP (still do, I hated XP with a passion), but it is a resource hog.

You have a version of Flexi 10.5 with the USB dongle, and installation disk right?

Not sure on 32 or 64,where can I check that? Running old Gatewat with Intel E2140 at 1.6, 2 GB Ram. Thank you very much for your thoughts!

Running ancient Gateway, 32 bit, 2 GB, also classic theme. I think I've got AVG stopped, but it still freezes. This is driving me nuts, especially since I had this all working a couple years ago. Would it be smart to try and install on a newer system, my ThinkPad running Windows 7?

Problem solved. Decided to try the serial cable to connect the cutter, after selecting the correct com port it worked great. I now need to tune it up a bit as the cuts with circles seem to be a bit rough. Will try a new blade first. Thank you to all that assisted with my issue!
