Flexi Contour cut not working properly

This is driving me mad. I open a file (i've tried pdf, eps and legacy eps) in HP FLEXI SIGN AND PRINT, select the logo and click effects-contour cut and it selects only the entire "artboard". There is no white background it is all just paths and compound paths. It is a logo and nothing is grouped. Using the direct select tool I can go through and select every single path but all of the training videos i've watched including SAIs show them selecting the file and clicking countour cut and all of the paths show as a cut line.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I should mention that this is a basic logo that is a rectangle with rounded corners and text inside. I need to cut out the rectangle and text.

probably it is a clipping mask around the image. Try : 'Arrange' - "Mask' - 'Unmask' . Use 'Design editor' to analize your artwork.
