Flexi & Mutoh,,HELP!!!

O.K., Well we run flexi pro 8 and a mutoh 1604 printer with a Summa 24" plotter. My problem is I want to print on 64" material width at a 22" or so height and then run through the 24" plotter. But the problem is I can not get it to print my reg. marks at a 90 degree angle so as I can turn it and out it through the plotter. It only seems to want to put my reg. marks as the way it feeds through printer. We have done it this way but then I have to print at 22" wide, run the roll back, print again. and that is a waist of time and material. Can someone guide how I could send it to printer and get the reg. mars to turn at the 90 so as I can cut it off and run through the printer? Thanx,,,Mykel

Why don't you want to just cut off a 24" by the 64" wide roll and just start off with a 24" wide and print the crop marks? Unless you want to be longer than the 64" for your project.

Not sure about your printer and crop marks but my roland needs a few extra inches to print the crop marks and thus the 24" wide material will be a smaller width of print area with the crop marks enabled.

If you run the same file over and over with the same cut lines then you could run one, the standard way, and make a template. Then you would have to use the template to manually place crop marks on the other pieces that need to be cut. Again if this is always a one of quantity, then you would not want to do this.

Yeah we have done it that way, but again waste of time.. I want to be able to print 10 - 20 at a time and then you could put a value in Flexi as to leave some space between, then cut them down to 24" or so after the prints were all done. There has to be a way in flexi to rotate the reg. margs to 90 degrees for print. I know several ways to work around it as we have for some time. I am just getting tired of a work around. At the money this software cost, surely there is a way to do such a simple request. Well not sure how simple as I ahven't found it anywhere yet. But none the less. Can't Flexi rotate this and the marks as well? right now it will rotate but the reg. marks stay at 0 Degrees and the image gets rotated... Man what a pain....

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
Try this...

Create two jobs with "Hold in List" specified in the RIP and print for each. One job, job A, where you print the panel horizontally across the 64" media. Another job, job B, where you print the panel vertically on one side of the 64" media.

In Production Manager double click each job and set the disposition on the second tab to "Hold".

Now then... Print job A as many times as necessary. Cut the results of job A into separate pieces to fit your plotter.

Load the strips cut in the above step into the plotter and cut job B.

I've not actually done this but it ought to work. Assuming the registration marks are reasonably symmetrical in shape. I have no idea what shape of registration mark your plotter needs but on my Graphtec they are perfectly symmetrical and there is no reason why this shouldn't work.

Nice, I'll have to try this when I get back to the shop. This could save me alot of time.

Brilliant Bob that worked perfectly. You just have to set up one file with vertical registration marks and the other with horizontal registration marks making sure they are on the same side of the artwork. Also I allowed a larger margin since my plotter likes a little extra vinyl on the back end.
