flexi rip and print problems PLEASE HELP

when i rip something to print the percentage of the print goes to 100% almost right away and then the printer is bogged down and takes about 100 times as long. The printing percentage used to follow the progress of the actual print. What have I done now? what button did I click or setting did I change please help

go to production manager>edit>preferences> and try unchecking "print while ripping"

it's not checked to begin with. the section beside it that says compress rip result is though. i don't know if that means anything
