Foil question (trying to prevent waste)

I unwrapped one of my white foils. I noticed that on this last job i ran. I did 6 pairs of decals at a time. In between and in the beginning of each run it forwards to start about 6 inches. How can I prevent hat from happening. I am pretty sure its an Omega setting.

Under Print Options in GSP Plot there is an option in the top right that says Conserve Foil. Make sure that box is checked.

I believe ususally when you print it will use the whole decal worth of space to print just the eyeball that's blue kind of a thing. But if you hit conserve foil it will do each eyeball right next to eachother on the foil but spaced normally on the vinyl. Thus conserving foil. I don't think conserve foil will cut down on the space between.

I do have the Conserve Foil checked mark.

At the start of every project the edge moves about 6" than starts. I understand it does that so it has enough material when it gets to the envision but that is not cool that it does it to the foil.

1. print 2. yes to vinyl, insert foil. 3. it moves 6" than starts.

I am positive there is a way to stop the manual 6". I just forgot how to uncheck that part.

Using the Conserve Foil feature eliminates the wasting of foil where that particular foil is not needed but it also causes some problems in color to color registration. I only use Conserve Foil when each color is separate from all others. If any color is touching another, I recommend turning off that feature. It does nothing about the gaps between print runs.

The gaps between print runs is built into the software and no adjustment for it is present in the controls. The only thing under your control is whether or not to print the job instructions. Unchecking the box (F11) for this will eliminate the space used for this thus reducing the gap between jobs needed to print it.

Robert: All these suggestions are right. However if you home your printer and mark the vinyl at the 12:00 position, then print something, you will notice that it is 1.7" from your mark to the beginning of the registration mark. So if you want to do as Pat suggests and manually rewind the foil at the beginning of the job, you can. Just pull back on the little paperclips and it will wind easily. Rewind it so that the spent ribbon is 1.7" past where the print head will start to print the registration mark. You'll have to run some tests.

This is a little like driving 5 miles to save $.50 on a pound of nails. Put a price on your time. Learn how to mount a roll of printed decals on the supply mandrel on your laminator. I will send you a video. The real problem is that you are not laminating the whole job at once. Save your cores so you can tape your printed product to a spare core if you don't want to mount the whole roll on the mandrel.

Thanks Fred, I never knew that about the conserve foil feature.... I don't use my Edge that much anymore for 2 color jobs, but good to know that the printer was not the problem.
