Font ID needed of stressed typewriter font

Arial Sucks.
A friend of mine sent me the image attached to this note, asking for a font ID. It looks very familiar, but strangely enough I cannot figure out exactly what font was used to create it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's too small and too modified to run an automated search but it sure looks to me like it may have started out as Courier New Bold.
