FSFonts

I just found out about a font issue within Flexi that a couple of our designers are having. A while back they had to reinstall Flexi on one of their computers, which lost all of their fonts from the computer as well. They copied back over all the fonts in the WINDOWS/Fonts folder that were on the other computers, but there were a TON of fonts still missing.

I came in today and thought that most of the missing fonts must be saved then in the FSFonts folder within the Flexi program files folder and copied those over onto the other computer to the same location. However, I then realized that those were not near all the fonts that were missing from the computer. In fact, the only fonts showing on that computer are truetype. I cannot for the life of me find where the other fonts might be stored at.

Both of these computers are running the same version of Flexi Expert 8.1v1. Is there another location that Flexi may be pulling these fonts from? I checked in the preferences location for the Fonts tab and it again points to the FSFonts folder in the Flexi program files folder, but the fonts are not there. Do I need to install these extra from somewhere else, or is there a CD that has these on them to install? Any help would be incredibly appreciated, as it has caused more than a few headaches from all these missing fonts.

My FlexiPro 8.6.2 has a subfolder named FSFonts that contains 27 proprietary font files with an extension of .STK. The location of the folder is

C:\Program Files\SAi\SAi Production Suite\FSFonts

Fred, I think that is the folder that I am thinking of as well for the version they have, it is similar to this:

C:\Program Files\FlexiSign Expert 8.1\FSFonts

As you said, it has several other font files in there. However, on the one computer these fonts do not show up in the list of available fonts. On the one that is working properly he has many other types of fonts, several other FlexiType (?) fonts as well as TrueType and other types of fonts. The one computer that is not working properly does not show any of these other types, only TrueType.

Still, here's the thing: On the properly working computer, several of these other FlexiType fonts are not in that FSFonts folder. For example, he has a font that shows on his computer as FT font type named Swiss 721, but this file is not in his WINDOWS\Fonts folder nor in the \FSFonts folder, so where could it possibly be? In his program preferences windows, with the Font tab, the path for the fonts shows as the FSFonts folder listed above.

Sorry if I'm confusing, I've got several years worth of their Flexi questions and patch fixes and changes to try and sort out!

That setting is established in the preferences of Flexi as shown below. It may also be worth noting that all but a couple of those fonts are single line engraving fonts and are not intended for print or cut use. I would check to see what the settings are on the machine not seeing them.

As far as I know all other fonts in Flexi are coming from the Windows\Fonts folder.

The window you described above Fred is the preferences menu that I am looking at as well. The path is the Program Files\Flexi Expert 8.1\FSFonts but there are only a fraction of the FT type fonts in that folder as what actually appear in his list of available fonts, and there aren't any FT type fonts in the WINDOWS\Fonts folder.

I did notice, however, that the bottom option in that preferences window to specify Flexi/Casmate fonts with open paths has been selected with a location in his. Perhaps these are the fonts then that I need. I will see if I can track that location down for additional fonts.

Thanks again for your help Fred!

Sounds like you may have found the difference. Please post back if that is the reason for the difference.

Update: Went to the Hays office and did get it figured out today. Apparently, that bottom option as I was explaing with the "specify Flexi/Casmate fonts with open paths" was grayed out in the machine not working properly. We went into the Flexi Expert program files folder and found a folder called CASFonts listed there on the working computer with several odd files contained within. Copied these to the other computers and presto, all the new flexifont files showed up in the list! Apparently, these random files in the CASFonts folder are almost like collections of font types and were missing on the other computer.
