My Sweetie has spent hours scanning her mother's old pix so she can
give her (many) sibs a dvd of them. I have used it for a quick scan of
something I am going to set up lettering over- fast.

For people who don't want to scan things themselves there's also shoeboxed.com. You just send them all your stuff and they scan and ocr everything. Low cost, reputable company that's been around a while and has a lot of industry trust. Also interacts nicely with other products you may be using like Freshbooks.com or Outright.com.
