In a new workspace, draw two rectangles. Select both. Are the alignment buttons available? If not, I have no idea what your problem is. If they are, then check for irregularities in the composition of the file giving you the problem. Possibly grouping or compounding at the heart of it.

ive used composer for 5 years.
that doesnt work.
they buttons dont light up
ive just gone over to 64bit windows. you think thats the problem?
