Get me an education....

99% of the work we do is for the home decoration market -- but this weekend a friend of mine asked me to apply some decals to his Ford F250 that wrapped from the front of the truck to the back of the truck. (He had bought the truck and it had a big old pink stripe that he wanted me to cover up with a kawasaki green strip and some flames....)

I admire all of you guys and gals who can do wraps really well -- I have such a hard time getting vinyl to wrap nicely around curves and things like door handles and logo emblems on the vehicle. Then he also wanted an eyebrow on the windshield which wasn't too hard except for being able to get high enough to work on top of the windshield.

Looking for recommendations on where to take a good class on how to do vehicle installs or wraps....

What material did you use? That make a world of difference right there....please don't just say it was "outdoor vinyl"? LOL!

Oracal 751 is lettering vinyl NOT wrap film. You need to use oracal 970 for solid color wraps and 3551RA for printed wraps.
BTW, you need to remove door handles and emblems if they are in the way, then put them back on after the film install.

I think the best place to get an education is

"The School of hard knocks"

It's a tough course I've been at that school for thirty years and still don't have enough credits to graduate

I think you might gain some useful knowledge from this video. Installing wraps can be challenging at times, but some of these newer films are so easy to work with that if you put the time in -you'll get there.

Its kinda hard to go work for someone else in the sign biz when you already own your company. I got started doing signs after 25 years in the offset printing world...

This is a picture of the truck that we were doing. We hid the pink stripe with a green stripe.... pretty basic stuff.

I know better than to take on a wrap job -- just more simple decals -- I was more or less looking for info on how you go around the door handles --- and giving you wrappers some props -- because I know that I don't want to do any wraps. Sub that stuff out to the guys who are good at it.

Mosh commented that you should remove the door handle trim. I don't see how you even do that. Does it just "pop" off? Not looking to wreck someones truck...

Handles like those are the easiest, the ones that stick out we pull off.
I'd pop that emblem off though. Takes about two seconds with some heavy fishing line. Clean off the foam, apply stripe then VHB it it back on.

what about the foam

What's the best way you've found to remove the foam? It's a real ***** on trucks that are a few years old!

He goes overboard with primer. I wouldn't use it anywhere near as much as this video recommends.
