We got a used XC-540 and a new copy of versaworks. We are having trouble getting the computer to communicate with the printer. We are sure they both have the same ip address but when we click verify it doesnt find it.

After we installed versaworks on the hard drive, under the folder "printers" its blank...

Also weve tried on three different types of windows. Xp, windows 7, and vista

thx for the help in advance.

Yes, last number on ip needs to be different.
What type of cable are you connecting them with? Std? Crossover?

Also, can you "ping" the printer's network interface? I always try that first to see if the machine is even out there at the address I expect.

--Type "cmd" (no quotes) in the search bar off the Start Menu to open a command window

-- Type "ping [XC-540's IP address]" (again, no quotes) and hit Enter.

You should see something like:

Reply from 192.168.15.20: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.15.20: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.15.20: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.15.20: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=64

If the requests time out, you've got trouble.

HTH.

Are you going straight from the printer to the computer or through some type of hub or switch?

If straight through, then you need to use a "crossover" cat 5 cable.

Either way, the computer and printer must have different IP addresses.
Something like ;
Computer 192.168.1.4
printer 192.168.1.10

Also, you may have to reset the printer IP, you can do that through the menu.
