Ghosting pictures?

No, not of hauntings, please.
I am bidding on a job for a client, who has an existing BIG white aluminum sign which has been lettered for three years.
I told him that if we remove/reuse, that there will be ghosting.
He can't visualize what I am trying to tell him and both he and the sign are about an hour away from me.
Does anyone have a picture of a vehicle or a sign which has had cut vinyl removed, which has a ghost of the old lettering?
I'm not super worried about the ghosting, but I do want to cover my hiney.

I think I may have something somewhere. Once I get to the shop I will try and dig it up for ya. One thing though that I would recommend - I make every client who wants us to re-letter and existing panel or their supplied substrate sign off on a waiver stating that we offer no warranty and cannot guarantee the results of the job.

I haven't tried it but Crystaltek makes a product called "Ghost Off" it's says that it is"a non-toxic, ready to use commerical grade solvent designed to quickly remove heavy oxidation on weathered surfaces. restores weather exposed surfaces. gets rid of ghost images". it's in my Hyatt's catalog and there's a web video http://www.hyatts.com/sign/video-crystaltek.php

I'm sure you will remember to; but let them know the cost of on-site time removing the old lettering, cleaning/prepping the surface (will you have to make two trips there & back?) - versus the cost of the new panels arriving at your shop and having them lettered and ready to deliver and install in one quick trip. Most of the time the cost of a new panel is a wash versus the labor to reuse the old panel.

I just happened to be reading over a few posts this morning while getting ready for work and it also just so happens I had a '02 Mack truck coming in for some vinyl removal and new graphics. So I figured it would be a perfect opportunity to collect a picture for you to show your client. This image is from the storage hatch door. This part had the worst ghosting of the entire truck. The reflective white vinyl that was on it must have been on it for 10 years because we had to use an eraser wheel to even touch it. Anyway, I hope this is kind of what you had in mind to show your client.

Think I've got him convinced that he needs a new handpainted sign.
