Gloss or matte, what's your standard?

I'm talking about your day to day applications. Vinyl print mounted on everything from coro to polymetal etc...

I prefer matte because there is no glare. I think it works great for indoor signage as we do a lot of prints for inside model homes or trades how exhibits.

I like them outside too, especially in hign sun areas, no glare and, always visible.

So what;s your preference and why?

Our standard is gloss, but we suggest matte to most everybody for the same reasons you listed.

I prefer matte on everything. That includes prints and paint finishes.Flat finishes can hide a lot of sins. When things are shiny you see each and every imperfection.

My preference is gloss for rigid substrates and stickers, and matte for anything flexible, eg. banners, posters and pull-up banner stands. We really don't get asked for matte at all here.

Cool, most of you confirmed my method of thinking.

We just finished up some HUGE hand cut dimensional letters. We gave them a clear matte finish to help hide some of the subtle sanding marks etc... that remained, they look perfect now, factory made, so to speak.

Matte rules!

We always stock 2:1 gloss to matte ratio for most of our printing media inventory as most customers tend to purchase gloss material from us.

im surprised to see so many matte users. I use gloss 99% of the time. I dont think i ever got a request for matte. Maybe i should start stocking matte.

Matte also looks better on television. Had some glossy crash-pads on the side of a football field end up getting a prominent shot during a broadcast, and they picked up the glare of the stadium lights so badly that they obliterated the sponsor's logos.

We did not make that mistake again.

I think matte looks better to start but it seems to show age faster. I use matte for decals that need writing on them (it seems to accept pens, sharpie better) I would have to say I use gloss for most of my stuff.
