Glow In The Dark Vinyl making my brain hurt

This is the company that actually developed the super high end glow stuff.

At one point I pondered the idea of mixing some of the powder in with some solvent ink to see if in very light concentration would it jet on a solvent printer..... if it would work you could rig a Y and a couple valves on an ink line and print it as a spot, when needed. Something Alan could defintiley pull off on his Mimaki. I know the company has solvent suspentions of the stuff and they make it in a very small micron partical size.

Pat, we use the Avery stuff, 15" X 30 yards for around $180.00 a roll. It should glow for about 6-8 hours on a good 20 minute charge. I know you can use it outdoors but not sure how long it will last, we use it indoors. We cut it with our Q54 with the force around 31-32 and it weeds OK but if they are smaller letters (1" and less) it will take you about 4-5 times longer then regular vinyl to weed.

I just check Avery's website...Their Glow-In-The-Dark is for indoor use only. I assume most vinyls and glow paints are for indoor use. At least not met for long term use as a parking sign.

Art! Hot and fresh.
G.I.T.D. film and paint only really works in complete darkness ... darkness that he should be using a flashlight in. I would inform him of this, tell him that if he's using a flashlight reflective is better, if he isn't using a flash light ... it's not dark enough and he should be looking for a lighted sign, not some half butt approach to seeing something important.

If he thinks that interior hobby supplies will work ... cut him some paint mask so he can paint his own and send him on his way ... don't do the work yourself.

good point. What are the chances that you give him glow in the dark signs, and hes not happy with the glow? This job could get ugly fast.

I think the matter may have taken care of itself. I talked to a glow paint manufacturer about coverage and to really get a glowing effect I was going to need a full gallon to paint the six panels. At $450 a gallon....plus new metal...plus metal prep.....plus spraying.....plus two coats of clear.....plus hi performance vinyl....plus overhead....plus profit....plus "nobody else will do this job" charges.....the signs were gonna run about 4 times more than the reflective.

I think now they are looking into what it will cost to install spotlights on the signs.
