You know the old saying: "it takes two to tango."
That holds true with the behavior of the media. They do the kind of tactless reporting they do because so much of the American public absolutely LOVES the stuff. Basically we get the media we deserve. The vultures aren't going to change their behavior as long as we keep rewarding them by tuning into the show.
Just look at all the crappy reality TV shows all over broadcast and cable channels. The public loves it. They love shows like "Survivor" where the most negative, back-biting behavior gets rewarded with loads of cash. We'll only see more of that stuff as long as viewers keep eating it up. This same rule goes for all the bland, derivative garbage that passes for popular music these days and all the movies that mostly consist of sequels, remakes and blow-ups of TV shows. As long as we're willing to buy crap the "content providers" will keep making more and more crap.
