Got a question, it should be simple, but I'm stumped

I use Adobe products, Illy and Photoshop, when I download digital photos the JPEG file type always shows up as a Photoshop type file an icon.

I have an old version of Corel, and it came with a CD full of clip art and fonts, I wanted to access those files, which were in Corel Photo Paint file format, so I loaded the Corel software on my computer to open the Corel Photo Paint files.

Now, all my JPEG files are showing up as Corel Photo Paint (see attachment) file format, and when you select one of them, Corel Photo Paint launches automatically. Even the BLUE PhotoShop icon has changed to the Corel Icon.

I know how to Right-click any jpg file and select “open with”, and made the change permanent. However the file icons and file name remain "Corel" as in the attachment.

I want to change the JPEG file types back to the way they were, and not Corel. I running Windows XP.

I have searched Google, got lots of suggestions, however they only make the Corel files open in Photoshop instead of Corel, but the icon and file name remains as Corel.

I know there is a way to fix this, it happened several years ago, and I had an IT fix the issue.

Anyone know how to change the file names back like they were.

:thankyou:

Control Panels, Default Programs, Set Associations
Select JPG
Click CHANGE button, select desired program

In XP it was in the "Tools-Folder Options" menu

Yep, I tried this, and although it changes the selection to the desired program (opens photoshop), the file names and icons remain as COREL?

Thanks for trying, but that did not fix the issue!

:frustrated:

make sure you do it for JPG, and JPEG, and any other variations. BMP, TIF, RAW, etc...
Your screenshot does not show the file extension of those pictures.

That's my deal too... You should be able to see the extensions. After you know the extension, you should be able to change the preset.

I like it. It's a pretty blue. I'd leave it alone. (the files are still just ordinary old jpegs... it's just the icon that xp displays that's changed)
