Graphtec CE5000-120 and Serial to USB adapter

I bought a Graphtec CE5000-120 and want to use it with Apparel CAD programs.
I have a computer without serialport and I want to use the Serial to USB adapter with Profilic chipset. Now it doesn't work. Could you please give me advice on where is the problem why it does not work.
