graphtec fc9000

I know I've asked this question before. However, I'm not getting anywhere on my plotter.
Here's the scenario:
The offset is wrong. However, the offset settings are either a 1, 2, 3. they aren't the traditional ones that i'm used to like the .50 or .25 etc.
The problem I have is that when I do the test cuts to see if the corners are nice and sharp, they are. every time. no matter which setting I place it on. HOWEVER, when I print and plot, the corners are rounded and not sharp at all.
Can someone direct me on what is happening here? does anyone else have the same machine? I'm looking at the manual and can't seem to find anything.

Thanks in advance.

It should be offset values between -5 and +5. Are you using the OEM blade holder, or a different brand? I've had trouble getting some China holders into acceptable range.

Have your tried calling Graphtec? They were very helpfull when I called 10 years ago, and spent a ton of time helping me resolve the issue. (operator error fyi)

Does the output software you use have an offset input area? We just upgraded to the 9000 which I'm familiar with but Caldera screwed me up for a while because it will override the condition settings I had just adjusted on the plotter. So I would test cut, adjust, then hit cut and it went right back to the Caldera settings.

This is what I was thinking as I've been through this before with other plotters. I'd check to see that your RIP isn't set to override device settings as this could explain why your test cuts are good but actual jobs aren't coming out nice.

Yesterday I plotted a bunch of letters to see how they were cutting in the corners. that's where the problem is. So if I plot letters straight on vinyl, no problem. A setting of a 0 seems to work nicely.
So, I think I realized its in the rip with flexi. Because it seems to only happen with printed plotter work.

So, now I think it's flexi...got any ideas on where to go to fix it? I'm about to call flexi support and ask them. (They take forever on the phone sometimes)

Sorry I've never used flexi (or Graphtec) before so I'm not sure where it would be found. I'd start by looking for machine-specific settings - somewhere there should be options to override/allow device settings like pressure, speed, offset etc. If you can find a way to disable the override it should allow the plotter to use the proper settings.

thanks i'll try that.

In the cut/plot dialog box, go to the options tab and see what the pass settings are. If you've got the plotter all dialed in for the material, you should set this to "None". If it's not set to none, select it and hit the edit button and pick it from the list. (Bonus tip: I also use this to run kiss cut and perf cut passes in the same plot. Just set up 2 separate conditions for kiss cut and perf cut on the plotter.) If you're setting is for a condition that's set up for another blade it can change the offset for that job.

A quick test to verify if it's flexi or not, use cutting master in corel to generate registration marks, print with flexi like normal, no layering for contour cut or anything needed, then load it in the plotter and see if corel will accept the offset values to properly cut it. I'd probably do a series of 10" square shapes initially, then try something longer.
