I subscribe to Inc. magazine and the most recent issue features their list of the top 500 fastest growing companies. The list includes their gross sales and number of employees. It's interesting to see how different businesses/industries compare on sales per employee basis. It made me wonder what this number looks like for our industry.

Edit - After seeing Pat's comment below, I'm going to ask that this be setup as a a poll instead.

It varies with the size of the shop. A big, national company will average about 180K. A small shop that does 300 to 400K will be about 100K.

Signs of The Tmes publishes a survey that includes thia amoung many other statistics on sign companies.
Usually the higher grossing/per employee companies are "electric" sign shops.
Of course gross isn't as important as net.
