GS6000 ink fade

Still trying to make up my mind on which printer to get. Just read on a thread that the orange and yellow fade in less than a year with lam. Has anyone with a GS had this problem?

If ink longevity is an issue for your clients then I doubt that the Epson is for you. They tell you straight up that the longevity is less than eco-solvent.

It's a good little printer, but a mild or eco-solvent printer would give you better longevity.

I'm just hoping someone would come out with a printer that's reliable as a mimaki, has the gamut of the Epson, and the longevity and ink adhesion of a solvent printer without the smell for around $20k.

Yep, its called the HP L25500.

I new someone would mention the HP, but the amount of heat it needs warps some material. LG Xign and Durasol 18mil I know for sure you can't run on it.

Adjust your heat settings and yes, they can. I run Xign all the time and have no issues.

I use Xign and Fellers Pop-Up for trade show booths and retractable banners and they print beautifully.

Have you gotten a demo of the Seiko V64s? Very reliable, excellent ink technology 2-3 years plus true 720 dpi everyday production speed 172 sq' per hour. A cut above the JV33 by far for only 5k more. Prints on everything! You won't regret it!

Epson claims to refer to 3M ink ratings

3M supports and honors it warranty using the Epson GS ink and says to review media info for warranty. Depending on usage can range from outdoors 4 years to indoors 8 years. **EDIT - WITH LAMINATION

Epson does have their ink rated and it is only for 1.5 years outdoors, see the pdf file linked below on page 18 of 22, this is right off of Epson's website. There was also someone on signs101 that posted a couple of months ago about the ink fading on prints from their GS6000, I think that they were in Texas. If you want to see a printer that beats out the Mimaki and has the ink longevity that you need with the print quality of the GS6000 check out the ValueJet 1624 from Mutoh. This printer is using a newer version of the same head that is in the GS6000 and gives you the added ability to control color with the SpectroVue option, no other outdoor printer has this option built in.

ok so the Epson claim...

IS 1.5 years un-laminated and that all depends on "actual display environment" I'm sure they are being conservative.

NOT "less than a year" as people have "heard"

We had a Seiko 64s eco-solvent and most un-laminated prints do not fair well in Florida sun more than 1.5 years anyways.

We had one guy insist on getting a 4 x 2 decals on the sides of his van and we offered lamination but he passed. 3 months later he came back with "the face" It looks like they used some degreaser or wheel cleaner - something harsh to clean the vehicle and you could see swirls from the cleaning towels. This was printed with the stinky Seiko 64s eco-solvent.

Another good example and I should photograph it. A restaurant purchased (2) 4x8 signs and they also cut the corner on the lamination - 2 years later the sign facing the sun all day is faded but the one that only gets half a day of sun still looks new.

Thanks for the datasheet. i hate seeing run away rumors about ink fading in less than a year.

They're saying it could last 126 years if it's framed under glass.

un-laminated and outdoors? yes it can happen. of course.

and this applies to almost all solvent prints.

get some acid rain on it and your done.

I always always recommend clients to laminate anything they expect to last more than 6 months. A pigeon can fly by and crap on 2 day old un-laminated print and they get ruined.

do the up-sell and offer lamination on everything. i will keep an eye on these prints in the sun and if anything jives I will post it here.

Can't speak to Xign, but I have run Durasol on my 25500. Had to turn the heat WAY down. I also laminated it, because I didn't feel like the ink was going to last long term otherwise.

We've had our Epsons for 3 years now, and are in Colorado (get a little extra UV fade here), and my results are: You will see fading in 1 year if outdoor and in the sun. Add a decent laminate, and its good to 3 years.

I had this same problem 2 months ago and changing the two-way valve assy fixed the problem, had the same problem as you and now when i run a nozzle check every color shows,
