I don't know about you, but the other thread needs to remain about prayers and thoughts to all those lost children and adults by a lone gunman.

Hopefully, anyone who wants to discuss or debate guns in United States, how it should/could gonna be handled.... can discuss it in this thread.

Personally, whether you're trying to keep guns out of everyone's hands or just the honest people is practically a joke in my opinion.

I'm not sure if more stringent controls on obtaining them would work, but to just ban them altogether is not gonna work at all.

I don't have guns for putting food on the table and I don't have ammo for such. I have some guns for varmints and other pests around my property. Then I have guns for target practice & pleasure and guns for carry.

I don't take guns of any sort, lightly. I believe there is a growing need for them and I have first hand proof on several occasions of that. I've never unholstered towards anyone, but I have been very cautious in certain areas and on high alert sometimes.

My wife is just now carrying in her purse, with speed rounds along side of the revolver. I keep mine loaded at all times. I went to a gun show and unloaded to go in and the doorman thanked me for doing so.

I don't believe there is a need to have semi-automatic weapons, but then again, we'll see what the next four years brings us.

So for openers, do we have any takers and PLEASE.... can we keep this a discussion and not a slug-fest, so we can keep this from getting locked down.

Sorry Gino. All this is going to do is go the same way of a discussion of religion with Colin. It's big of you to attempt preemptive editing of the contents of the other thread, but all you've done is begin an exercise in futility. Hopefully I may be wrong.

Gino any gun that hold multiple round can be shot as fast if not faster than a semi-automatic! So if you think that semi-autos should be outlawed than any gun that holds more tan one round should also be outlawed. I believe that any gun should be legal to own by law abiding citizens. What we need to do is stop giving assistance to everyone and get the mental hospitals we used to have back and this would correct some of this. Once they closed these down and placed these people out into the local communities this is what happens. Also we need to enforce the laws we have of use of guns in an illegal way.

I really don't care how many of the gun patrol or religious fanatics go haywire..... I just think it's too cruel to be discussing this kinda stuff in a thread about dead little kids. H*ll their bodies aren't even cold yet, and these supposedly good doers on both sides of the fence are going to war over there.

Get the H*ll outta that thread and discuss your crap in this one and take this one down the toilet. That's exactly why I started this, but hopefully we can keep it afloat, but we'll see how many perfect people ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE can't keep their big mouths shut and destroy this one.

Anyway, let the pigeons loose, we're about to have a real shoot-out............

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
The constitution of the USofA states unequivocally that the people have the right to keep and bear arms. Not a militia, not an army, the people. Arms. Not this kind of arms or that kind of arms. Arms. As upheld by the Supremes.

Anyone that holds that the 2nd amendment doesn't mean that you can't have one of those, whatever thing 'those' might represent, are no different than people who hold that the freedom of speech guaranteed in the 1st amendment doesn't mean you can say that, whatever 'that' might be. Both are wrong.

It means that you can own one of those and you can say that.

Is there something else to say?

I'm feeling a little too close to this tragedy. My wife teaches kindergarten in a poor part of her district. In the past, one of her students was beat to death by a live in boyfriend for coloring on the wall. It seems every year she has a few students with a parent in prison. She is always being told stories of battling parents and many of her students live with grandparents. I called her a little while ago and she was too upset to talk to me. I hope I'm not one of the people you've invited to "keep my big mouth shut".

As usual my friend, you've boiled it all down to its logical conclusion.

Brian, there are a handful of people on this earth that can rapid fire a pistol or revolver as fast as an automatic and have any aim going on whatsoever. Can you squeeze off 30 rounds in a 9mm and hit something the way a machine gun can ?? Maybe I should've said assault guns. I probably said that wrong. Sorry. But, with a big clip, can you make 20 or 25 hits ?? Well, neither can most of these idiots packing going into movie theaters, schools or malls. These are little minded people with big guns and have some inferiority complex and have a need to prove themselves and then take themselves out, cause they know they're in the wrong 100%. They might be nuts, but not completely. Life doesn't mean anything to them, because as someone said, we are being desensitized by our environment in which we live.

Ya know, it was scary enough decades ago to see a horror movie, then you had to show the monster, then you had to show it doing it's evil thing, then you had to show blood..... and guts, then it had to be more and more realistic until, no one feels threatened by anything, not even a loaded gun pointed towards you. We're numb and life means nothing to us as a society..... as a planet of zombies.

In my opinion, having worked in the county jail system for many years. Our mental health system sucks to the 10th degree. Crazy people who should be locked up somewhere are let out to OUR streets daily, left up to their own devices.

Guns in any designs, legal or not, will always be available.

One of the first jobs I had was working in the central kitchen of a state mental hospital. The place was as big as a good size university campus. It's all but completely shut down now due to social movements to integrate the patients back into society thru half way homes and the like. There were a LOT of patients there I was in fear of, people with no humanity behind their eyes whatsoever. Yeah right, we need to be the kind of compassionate society to welcome those people into our neighborhoods!

Sorry fmg, but no handgun ever killed anyone. The agenda behind that is apparent to the most profoundly mentally retarded individual. No gun anywhere anytime ever killed anyone without a person handling it. And for the sensitive PC folks, "profoundly retarded" is still an acceptable terminology and you'd believe it if you were ever on a ward full of them.

Yeah bob. This is my interpretation. I don't think our forefathers ever had any notion there'd be planes, tanks, trains, bazookas, machine guns, or even automobiles for that matter. So, yes, they had in mind for all citizens to have the right to bear arms, but not motors and sub machine guns. No matter how far into the future these guys could see, it was about human behavior and mingling among one another, not the type arms race we had in the 60's and 70's. I'm sure the constitution would've had some different verbiage in there had they written this 200 years later.... heck, 100 years later. So, yes, we do all have the right to bear arms, but why do you need a rocket launcher in your arsenal ?? Or a few machine guns or grenade launchers ?? What do you want to hunt or shoot at ?? With that kinda mentality, what do you use when you go fishing..... torpedoes or depth charges ??

Arlo, everyone is welcomed. I don't care what side of the fence one is on. This is the place to figure it out, as long as we keep it civil and not waste Fred's time monitoring it and then having to lock it down, cause the kids don't know how to play fairly.

Not going to go into it much myself other than to state my own opinion and duck out. Outlawing guns is pointless and a waste of yet more govt resources. The only outcome of doing so would be that only criminals have guns and taxes go up trying to enfore the new laws. They are NOT going to simply "go away" because the govt says they are illegal.

'Need' is not a player here. 'Need' is one of those things set by others. I might have lawful things because I want to and I can. I do not have to demonstrate need. This is as it should be

Our forefathers left it generalized for that very reason. The 2nd amendment was not created to protect the citizens right to go hunting. It was meant to protect our right to protect ourselves and our ability to rise up against a tyrannical government therefore technically by the inherent purpose of the 2nd amendment, whatever the government has, should also be allowed to the people. say what ever you want, but those are the facts.

"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

As tragic as the events in CT are today...I know what's coming & I just want to make a couple of points here before the onslaught begins by the left & the national media:

1. Both shootings recently occured in states with pretty strict gun control laws AND the actual shootings occured in "Gun Free Zones" (a mall & a school)...where the shooters knew no one would be lawfully carrying a gun with which to take them out befor ethey could inflict maximum carnage.

2. Had any of the administrators, teachers, or support staff been legally carrying their lawfully licensed weapons on them at either of these shootings, they may have been able to take out the shooter early, saving many many lives.

One last point...the shooter in Oregon STOLE the gun he used, so he committed a crime to commit a crime.
