hello everyone i am new to the forums here but i think this is where i need to be, it looks to me like most everyone on here is good enough to answer my question/problem.soo here it is: I have a gx-24 running the basic cut studio that came with it,but mostly use ultra flex 7.6v2. the problem comes to me upgrading my computer i was running XP but figured i would install it on my hp with vista or my new laptop with windows 7 on it. my problem is when i installed it on my vista comp.it locks up when sending it to the cutter..... called where i purchased it from and they are telling me that i need to purchase an upgrade to my ultraflex program for around $500 ...are you kidding me!?!?!?! I do not live in a large city to where i can afford to keep goin out and buying new software. so i guess my question is is this true or has anyone found drivers that can be used. well thats the basics of it. any questions feel free to ask. thanks in advance for taking time to look at this matter. my xp is just to slow... Jeff

I understand the sticker shock but you mention you have a new laptop with windows 7. Did your windows xp or vista box crap out? How much did you pay for the laptop? Did you buy it as an upgrade from your older computers?

The ultraflex version you have is probably 6 years old, give or take.

The software is really a tool within your shop IT Toolbox in my opinion. You can choose to use older tools if you want or buy newer ones to offer more efficiency, speed, versatility or function, if you see fit. If you buy a new LED troublelight, you can't use a standard lightbulb in it.

I am not trying knock anyone in this reply. Expecting older software to run on a new setup is simply taking too much for granted.

This may have something to do with me buying quickbooks last year for $250 and knowing an upgrade this year is $189 now and that even includes a 20% discount.

1st you need to check and see if the version of vista is 32 bit or 64 bit,..the way they address ports are very different as a 32 bit os has a completely different number to address the port than a 64 bit os. Then you need to find a compatible version of cut studio for that version of windows. If I am not mistaken it is a free download from roland.
as for your version of ultra flex or what ever it is that you say you are using I would find an alternative program if their 32 bit version won't run on a 32 bit version of vista, however if it is 64 bit you may have to fork over the coin for an upgrade.
