Half Cut on Mimaki CG130FXII - need help!

Hi Guys,

I've never had success with half cut - I usually end up giving up and just moving the cut line and doing a full cut through the material on the hard strip - less than ideal and ruins strips/blades, etc. BUt it drives me insane changing settings only to have the cutter totally destroy things no matter what settings I use.

In a nutshell I have sheets of printed monomeric self adhesive vinyl that I want to cut to shapes. I've tried cutting pressures from 70-140, speeds from 005 to 020, Offset 25-30, and 60deg vs 45 deg blades. I've also adjusted the half cut setup from between 0.1mm to 0.3mm half cut, pressure from 50-80g, cut distance from 5mm up to 25mm, nothing seems to work, every time the blade turns a corner in the cut it tears the material, it leaves rough edges on push out, etc, etc.

The manual is useless as it has no starting point for settings for different material - can anyone help me with at least a starting point for such material - a guide to typical half cut pressure, length of cut and length of half cut? I can't see HOW it will work as every time it turns a corner it's going to tear regardless.

Anyway enough of my ranting any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

I use a 45 degree blade protruding quite far with:
Speed 20
Pressure 300
Offset .30

It doesn't leave a nice finished cut, it's sort of jagged but it always works fine.

I use Flexisign for perf cutting. I use 53 degree clean cut blades with Speed 20, Pressure 120, and 30 offset. I notice if the cutting strip isn't in good shape then the cuts will be jagged.

I do perf cut all the time and at around 250 3" x 3" at a time. I even perf cut 22" circles

i use a 45degree blade and I use the same blade and holder for cutting regular vinyl. No adjustments except the tool condition setting

Attached are pics of my settings and a recent perfcut sticker

Thanks guys I'm getting a MUCH better result using a 45 degree blade and Speed/Pressure/Offset 20/200/30 now :thumb:

One thing I noticed was my max pressure for the half cut is 80g so I'm running that with a 0.3mm half cut and 5mm cut - as I don't have any nice long edges.

I'll keep having a go with slightly different settings but you're all helped me get much closer to a saleable result, really appreciate it :thankyou:
