Handyman taking sign work away?

Ok, found this pic I took over a year ago. Not the best off my phone, but wanted to point out the quality this guy went through, like actually bolting the wood through the camper shell window....lol The money he saved making his own sign, probably cost him his business? It was a great laugh, thought some of you may enjoy it as well.

They look at it as " I saved a ton of dough on making my own sign" what they fail to realize is that now they have done an excellent job at scareing away any business they wanted to get. It's actually counter productive but, it does give us all a good laugh.

Yes, thats ugly but on the other hand, it may be a clever marketing scheme in which his phone rings off the hook and he maintains a backlog of all cash work because the customer assumes he is the cheapest guy in town and rarely questions his charges or shops out the work.

A handyman guy came to me precisely because he'd seen a truck like that and didn't want people to think he was some jackwagon.
This is what I've seen around here.
Stalked him for weeks before I caught him in traffic.

unless you know the person and know they are too cheap to buy a real sign, don't be so hard on them. people have lost their jobs and have no income. it could be a person doing their best to take care of themselves and their family. given the choice of paying for food or buying a sign, what would you do if it happened to you? I used to laugh and crap on these guys but lately with the way things are with so many doing just about anything to earn money, it isn't so funny anymore.

Well said Marlene!
There is a guy around my area that has an old(er) 1/2 ton truck that he uses to haul firewood, etc. I know from talking to others that he doesn't have a lot of money and is a hard worker. He has spray painted lettering / phone number on old board side racks. The next time I see him, I'm going to offer a couple small aluminum signs for his side racks... for free!

PAY IT FORWARD!

Jill-

Gotta love those Sunoco stickers on the side!

On another note....I used to scoff at these guys, but then one day I got to thinking that these guys are actually out there DOING work...sometimes hard, crappy, menial work...instead of standing in a welfare line looking for a handout. We should applaud their effort.

I'm totally with Wes on this one. We have a local locksmith that has a van that appears to have been lettered by his ten year-old. One of these days I'm going to track him down and offer to help him out. He's a hard worker and seems to be doing well, despite his "corporate image" faux pas.
