has anyone else noticed this lately?

On different forums I will be reading a thread and then one word is underlined and if I hover the mouse over it, a 3" x 3" add box opens completely unrelated to the the thread.

I have seen this on my laptop and not my work computer, yet virus scans and spyware scans see nothing out of the ordinary.

Anybody else experienceing this?

I know but it will attach itself to a word in a thread and you know it was not put there by the contributing member as it has nothing to do with anything remotely related.

next time I see one I will take a screen shot

I had that issue, turned out to be adware on my computer. Can't remember the particular one. I ran Malwarebytes then Spybot Search and Destroy. They took care of it.

yup, you agreed to have something installed when you updated or installed something else and did not know it. Either run MalewareBytes or look at your recently installed programs for something you dont recognize, google it to make sure its adware and then uninstall it.

This is not spyware, etc......It is advertising that the forum operator has allowed to be there......And yes sometimes it does not seem to relate to what is being talked about....

You have it right. It's a modification that was recommended by the vBulletin forum software publishers quite a while back. It's cheesy IMO so I never added it. The version I saw, however, did not add any words. It just linked paid for keywords to an advertiser's url and added a popup if you hover over the link.
