This is about someone else's marketing program.

Just was told, Feller's is getting out of the banner making business. They don't have a final date, but are slowly removing the sewing machines as we speak. It won't be long before you can only buy the material, but not have it sewn any longer by them.

I can only imagine how that end has been steadily declining with the advent of cheap printed banners. I am soooo glad we are not a banner and coro shop...

I commented on the fact that everything is going digital and she said the main reason is that too many people are calling back and complaining that the banners we made were the wrong size. I asked her how that could happen ?? She said, well, someone calls for this size by that size and then complains we made it different.

It's either a 3' x 8' one way or the other.... how off can you be and everything is repeated and it's written on your call sheet. That's the sheet they fax you before they ever start the order.
Okay, then what happened to all your recorded phone calls to insure proper service ??

Haha.... she said, you know how it is in business, you can't call a customer a liar.

So, what's the sense of even saying that message ??

She just went on and on how this doesn't make profit and that doesn't do this and that won't get that and her mouth went like a duck's ass going south for the winter........ No offense, but she wasn't making any sense. In fact, it's sure good she isn't the 'Feller's Spokesperson' because she was a terrible communicator.

Anyway, no more banners from them.... probably the biggest banner supplier in the world. Business must really be bad if no one can afford banners anymore. That means a lot of business to be had by anyone making good reputable banners.... or looking to get into the banner making business. They must've put out somewhere between 1/2 to a million banners a year.

Wow. That says a lot about the industry. Good thing they changed the name
from Ameriban -- a few years back.

maybe cause they have idiots sewing them? I ordered a break away banner and they sewn the velcro on the wrong side of the banner and had to make me a new side

Interesting. They told me it was because very few people ordered custom blank banners anymore since most shops print and finish them in-house or sub them out and get them in complete and ready to go. They just weren't doing enough business to justify keeping employees on hand for making banners.

Speaking for my shop two years ago I was ordering custom banners from Fellers daily to the point we had a dedicated table to keep them on when they'd come in. Forward to today....I ordered a webbing blank this morning. It was the first one I've ordered from them in six months. The industry has changed....it won't be that long before digital prints and flatbed printers do the same thing to vinyl.

I recently had a banner made there to match a banner that I had them make a year ago. I tracked down my orginal drawing that I had faxed for the first banner and sent it so that it would be the same. New one came out 2 inches shorter. Luckily for the particular job it didn't matter much so we just used it and went on.

That's inconvenient.
Our city has just relaxed our sign code to allow for banners again.

Just finish your own, it's not hard...

Buying a machine to sew the two or three a week doesn't make sense if Ameriban isn't profitable sewing for everyone.

Shoot!

I'd say them removing the sewing, rather than adding printing (like some supply houses have) is probably the lesser of the two evils. :)

Hmm, I'm going to have to contact them to see if they are going to be selling those beautiful air-hockey sewing tables they have. We're going to build one for ourselves one of these days but I'd rather buy one premade.

I imagine Fellers makes more $$$ moving large size wrap film, laminate, vinyl etc since they advertise and push it so much.
Printer films have a large size and when a customer places an order it can run into thousands of dollars per transaction.

They stop making banners in Raleigh N.C. some time ago, they busted up the table to fit in the dumpster.

So, if it's true, who's making a decent banner.
Fellers makes a great banner, although I don't like the gloss so much

Ive probably bought about 60 or 70 pennant banners with pole pockets from them in the last year and a half for a local school. Crap. THey always did a good job on the banners I ordered. Seems like everything is pushing everyone into digital whether we want to or not.

This isn't surprising... with their shift to 'the largest wrap supplier' and the low cost of banner material, I haven't ordered one from them in years. I either buy pre-made rolls with grommets that I slice to size (bandanna banner for one), or (most recently) buy rolls of banner material and grommet/sticky-hem my own. It's much more cost efective for a banner finishing shop to buy the material and use 2-sided tape/grommets to make their own banners as we do...
