Heat Transfer for shirt pricing?

Hi everyone!

i have a customer that i make business decals for and he wants me to make him shirts. they need to be digitally printed.

i have some siser colorprint II i bought a while back i paid around $40 shipped for 15" x 15' roll, each shirt takes up at least a 1ft, plus the roland eats up 4" every print job, not including the little 3" logos for the front of the shirts. it will cost me at least $3 a ft. to print

how much can i really charge for a shirt?? i have a local guy who will supply the basic white shirts and press them for me for $6 a shirt. so that's at least $9/shirt before i make any money.

How much are these shirts worth? he only wants a couple dozen, seems like a lot of work for not a lot of money.

thanks

double your cost. short run of multiple-color screened shirts will cost waaay more when you include screen fees etc.

edit: dont forget your printer time, time to bring transfers to heat press buddy, pick em up, etc...

You answered your own question. Charge $9 a shirt. If not having your own proper equipment results in you costing "too much", then it may just not be a good job for you.

doubling my cost seems the only way to make this cost effective. i agree...

Did you ask your client what they want to spend?.....I have a feeling by the time you cover your costs and make a profit you will be way over what they have in mind....

Short run shirts such as this I am at $14 dollars first press and another $4 for each time the press comes down on standard shirts. Any cheaper not worth the time involved IMO.

for short runs of shirts, $10-$12 is not unreasonable.

We're primarily an apparel shop, signage is a secondary market. For small quantities 1-4 we charge $20 each. At 23 pieces you are getting down to around $12 each.

Larger quantities make more sense to screen print.

$6 seems steep for a shirt and a press. If this is something you will be doing regularly, PM me and I will put you in touch with wholesale apparel rep in your area.
