Hello from Northern CA & a Q right off the bat!!

Hello,
I bought a a Cougar CP630 from Signwarehouse a couple of years ago. I bought it so I could have some fun and mainly to create signage for our rental fleet. I am not in the sign business. I do have over 20 years of inplant printing under my belt. I am familiar with publishing software and other graphic applications. I was looking for a listserve and SW steered me this way. I hope the experts out there can give me some assistance.
I run my cutter in ernest about every 6 months so I have yet to "bond" with the machine, but I'm getting closer. Possibly when I retire, I could use it to generate some income.
Here are my questions:
I run 15" wide vinyle, my cutter can accomodate rolls of 24" (25", 26"?? A standard size anyway.., it's in the other room. Had I known the footprint was as large as it is, I would have bought something smaller. Hindsight!)
So..., I run my design and all goes well. The image doesn't abort for several cuttings and then it does, all the while eating up some nice pricey reflective blue vinyle. I have the image 3 up, length wise it goes to about 24".
Can someone tell me why this (any) machine stops in mid cut on a cut that worked before? This isn't the first time I've burned vynle. Before cutting this I called SW support. They said to wipe down the machine with an antistatic cloth and to run any design first using a plotting pen. I did these, finally success, my image cut through 2xs then it aborted again. GRRR.
Any other pointers? I'm told this is a hobbyist's cutter. My designs aren't elaborate (what constitutes elaborate, anyway. The size of the file or intricate cutting??) Would it be better to order 24" rolls and cut one at a time on the 24" side? Hmm, that's tedious, but I still have to learn how to run repeating cuts. Any help is appreciated.

Just a though.....I think i read about this some place here .... about the page length that the cutter/design program will only cut a certain length, check to see what yours is set at and if there is a limit on length.

Hey! Thanks for such a speedy response! I use VE LXI Apprentice.
On this cut I was able to design here without importing from Freehand because my image is made up of fonts.
Originally I designed this cut in Freehand and saved to paths and some how it didn't import - although I was able to import an image for our logo on a different cut -- way back when, remember I still need to bond with "Big Foot(print)". Not sure what I left out this time. The learning curve is steeper when you only cut now and then. (That logo cut burned some vinyle, too, it zipped along and then headed across the vinyle at a 45 degree angle w/out lifting the blade - adios image!! I sent this image to SW and they "fixed" the problem. When I asked what the "fix" was, the tech didnt' offer any info -- I really want to learn how to do this!!)
Anyway, the only thing I got with my cutter was a manual that was written, printed and edited in China. Thankfully I have an imagination..., "for I have to put my fingers away from the blade."
Where might I find the info on the limitations of my cutter? Again, many thanks on any leads, tips and suggestions.
BTW, is this cutter worth considering? Being green I may not have done enough researching before shelling out $700+/- just to have some fun.
Also, after an aborted cut, the blade traveled to the right and hit the reset button, after that the LCD was blank. I asked SW how to "reboot". The answer was to wiggle the wiring under the LCD, that worked. Now what? With every cut there is a chance a loose connection might be the problem? This cutter has less than 50 cuts to it's name. A wiggle restored the LCD. This is shaking my confidence daily. :) thanks again for any suggestions.

Send this guy an e-mail. JBarraxSW He is a Product Manager with SignWarehouse, who is now a Merchant Member here at Signs 101. Maybe he can help with your problem. Let us know what kinda help you get from SW. I and many others will be curious.

HI. Welcome from Beautiful BC.
It may be that you have an open path within the file. When the blade gets to that point , it just does not know what to do and goes "searching" til it hits the reset.
I would check that.
Cheers!
