My name is Angie, and I've been in the graphics industry for about 5 years now. I've been a member here for almost a year & haven't posted anything, however I frequent the boards daily, & have learned a tremendous amount of invaluable information. In addition to 4 kids, 3 dogs, 2 turtles, more fish than you can shake a stick at & one very understanding husband, I also find time for the 2 business that we run (an off-road park & my graphics business). Just don't ask me how, cause I haven't figured that one out yet. Anyways, I just thought I'd pop in & actually introduce myself.
Thanks to everyone that posts up critiques, tips, tricks & lends a general helping hand. You are very much appreciated!:thankyou::signs101::U Rock:

Welcome!

You are going to find a lot more help on this forum as you go along. By the way, we used to have a Software Trainer named Angie and, even though we are in Texas too, I don't think you are the same one. Last I heard she just got married. :Welcome:

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I guess the reason I haven't really posted much up is that I just don't have a lot of time. I have read & learned so much from this site that I really just wanted to thank y'all. Hopefully, I'll have more of a chance to post some stuff up. I Have been mainly doing decals for some of our local guys that race and/or compete in our events, and I also do all of the promotions, advertising, banners, fliers etc. for our events at the off-road park. I've been seriously thinking about doing signs as a part of my business, but I have been hesitant, mostly because of my lack of experience. I did not just want to jump in & end up giving my customers cut rate work. So, that being said, I decided to get a job at a local sign shop, just started this week. I don't think I will be there for very long though. It seems like they only use crap vinyl and they aren't consistent with their pricing at all. That bothers me. ALOT! For instance, one customer ordered a set of magnetics, 18x24, 1 color, yesterday, $50. Today another customer ordered the same thing, $150! WTH???? There are other things that bother me about this shop, but they are probably best left for the "No Holds Barred" board.

Ok, I've thanked everyone & ranted so I'll thank you again & leave it at that for now.:beer

I wouldn't have a problem with it if there was a considerable amout of weeding on one & not on the other, orsomething that would make the price hike seem to make sense, but I swear these people pull their prices out of their arse. They also don't have anyone sign a contract, but do require 50% down. So then they complain all day about how they're not getting paid. DUH! And trust me, the 50% down is about all most of their work is worth.
I find it hard to work in an environment where there is absolutely no way to produce quality work, with substandard materials. Maybe it's just me & I've just been so used to working for myself that it's hard to work for someone else now. :help:
I'm certainly not saying that I've never cranked out some piece of crap before, because I have. I'm not that arrogant. And I certainly have done some jobs that were totally low balled on the price, on a rare occasion for a friend. I just can't see how they've managed to stay in business for the last 10 years. Maybe I'll just take up painting LOL

Welcome from OK.
maybe they are giving friends discounts too....It helps to know your customers and what they are willing to pay.

You're probably right...hadn't thought about it like that. I think alot of it has to do with "working for someone other than myself" syndrome.
That & I know I'm definitely not getting enough sleep now. Need more:Coffee:
