help, I'm in need of ideas

Working on this 20' boat and I have to put a 4" reflective stripe along the side. When I get towards the front and it starts to curve, I just can't keep that stripe straight on the line I need it to be on.

I have cut it at that point and tried using a heat gun but it is a little to severe to follow the curve without moving way off path...to much heat and the stripe is garbage.

The 4" blue reflective stripe will have a 2" yellow stripe down the middle and thought maybe I can cut 1.2" blue stripes and possibly they will be easier to follow the line I need...... Not sure this is going to work.

We did it about 4 or 5 years ago with this customers other boat but I don't believe the curve towards the front was as severe.


Not sure what to do now.

Maybe narrow the stripe as it approaches the front, and this might give you more flexibility for the curve? It would need to be plotter cut as a "taper" though. Can your machine track a fair distance accurately?

The downside is, as the stripe narrows , and the angle of deadrise increases, the stripe looks even thinner....

I have the 1.2" stripes cut so I think if I make a masking tape edge to follow and the heat gun i can get it to work although my patience runs thin and i want to go home.....lol

The 1.2" stripe worked a lot better. I could follow the tape line as it was much easier to work with. Now the yellow stripe....
