Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Josh and I am a Mechanical Contractor. I have been wanting to get into the sign business for a while and I finally got my opportunity. The owner of the sign business next to my shop is tired of all the hassels of being a business owner and just wants to work so i decided to step up to the plate. I am excited and a little nervous to be perfectly honest. Anyways i just wanted to say hi from California!!!

I also did have a question though. The current owner has a Roland VP-540 Versacamm printer and a Royal Sovereign RSC-1440c laminator that he would like to sell to me. They are both in really good condition but was curious on what would be a fair offer. Any comments would help alot. Thanks for all your time!!

Welcome Josh from NorCal!

As for the offer, lot's of things would depend, how old? still under warranty? maintenance records? What is his asking price?

No offense here but if you are new to the business how would he expect you to make an offer? best bet would be to compare what he wants to new obviously, also check with some vendors, some have used equipment, see how it compares there.

Also if it sounds like a great deal, maybe try and find a tech to come check the equipment out, I am sure it would cost, but maybe worth it.

Again welcome, and good luck!!!!

Welcome to the forums from PA...

If he sold you the business isn't the printer part of the business?

Hi Josh, welcome from the great Pacific Northwest.

Regarding the printer (and laminator) did you know that there is a way to print out the machines "history"? (headstrikes, number of print head firings, etc.?

It may take a tech to do it for you, or perhaps someone on the board here knows how to do it.

But that would be a pretty good indicator of the machines age. (not in years but more importantly in how many miles of material have been put through it)

Good luck and prosper!

Thanks eveyone for the warm welcome. Regarding the printer. Its kind of confusing but he bought the business a few years prior (I think 2-3) and the printer and laminator came with it. They were purchased right before the first owner decided to sell the business. The first owner decided that she missed her family and wanted to move back. It was, from what i have been told, kind of a spontanious decision. So he doesn't really know what they are worth. I want to be fair to him and especially myself. Can anyone give me a number on what they think its worth? New, the printer goes for around 21k and the laminator for around 6k. I was thinking something aound 12k for the printer and 2k for the laminator? I know that is a big difference from new but it is used. Any comments? Thanks ahead of time.
