Hi, I am interested in Vinyl (LPs too!)
I am trying to figure a few things out, software wise to the hardware. I will be starting out as a hobbyist, probably a 15" - 30" cutter. My first question is this, do I need more than Illustrator to run a cutter? I have years on Illustrator, from a print production backround, so what does Flexi and others do that Illustrtator wont? Also I am thinking about a Graphtec CE5000, would the combination of the Robo Software and Illustrator work quality wise? I would not need throughput, as it were.

Oh yeah, its nice to be here

If you are this familiar with Illustrator you have a great advantage. There are several cutting plug-ins available for it (provided by the cutting manufacturer normally) I use FineCut from Mimaki and I must say, i rarely use Flexi at all anymore.

Welcome from NJ.

As Pro Image "You won't go wrong with the Graphtec................"

My Graphtec came with plugins for Illy. I never used them though.
I'm sure they work fine (maybe)

Graphtec has redone their line of cutters. I believe the CE5000 is no longer produced. It is however probably still available. You should be able to get one in the $1,200 to $1,400 range . It is a good cutter and has OPS for contour cutting printed graphics.

Hi and thanks,
I did not read where Graphtec changed their lineup, Jackpine, you got a link? I am an information junkie! I have not yet jumped, but generally I wait and wait and save some money and buy the best of what I can, my old G3 is great still (300mhz!). I don't make a living using these, so I can get by without throughput, unlike work, where I don't need as much quality as throughput.
I know I'll have other questions, but I'll reserve them for the proper forums.

have a great weekend and
God bless!
