high production printing cost on HP Latex printer

Seems we hi-jacked this thread when the prices were discussed. My apologizes. I do hope you got your price per square foot answer Onlinestar.

For those of us interested in pricing ink the best I could find was $135. http://bigsys.com/EPages/Ink.pl?Mf=HP&Mo=L26500&Gr=Latex&from=Ink&War=&r=Ink.pl

Shopped for the HP L26500 792 Ink Cartridges.

Searching the link provided by onlinestar, the posts there stating $115-$120 are +/- five years old and refer to other machines.

Actually am inclined to believe you Coloradosigns. Can you prove you or anyone else prove you get $123...??? Searching and calling resulted in frustration. :rock-n-roll:

If you want my source, I'm getting L25500 inks for $125 and heads for $95. I haven't called but can't imagine much difference for L26500 prices from my vendor.

HP L26500 775ml ink cartridge for $125.00 each is very common.

When asked to calculate ink cost, we typically include the cost to replace disposable print heads as well. We calculate ink and head replacement to be about $0.28 per square foot printed (all colors at 100% saturation).

It is certainly less expensive than OEM mild solvent ink for Epson, Mimaki, Roland, Mutoh, and Seiko, all of which is ink only and does not include head replacement.

Basically, this, just as Colorado explained it. Except I'm at $117.50 per cart. 2 machines churning away, with custom ink limits. VERY rarely do we get something we cant hit first time.

i pay 123 for latex ink.
i print 8 pass all day. 20cents a SQFT.

if you're using flexi it lays about 3 times too much ink

Ink price depend your relationship with your vendor. We pay L25 L285 $119 ea. FB500 ink $450 (may be expensive on FB)

Kev,

Your HP ink costs are very reasonable. Whoever is selling them to you is making a small, but reasonable margin on both latex and UV. There are many folks paying considerably more for the same products.

I thought I'd update this with some real figures. Our L26500 stats currently are:

Substrate usage 59,291.01 ft²
Substrate usage 5,508.32 m²
Ink family HP 792 total usage 54107 ml*

Cartridge costs $165/775ml (higher Aussie prices)

Ink usage ml/ft[SUP]2[/SUP] = 54107/59291 = 0.9125668313909362
Ink cost c/ml = 165/775 = 21.3c

TOTAL INK COST =
0.913 x 21.3 = 0.194 c/ft[SUP]2[/SUP] ($2.09/m[SUP]2[/SUP])

I've also replaced maybe 3 heads outside warranty and a couple of cleaning kits.

I need to find your guys' ink suppliers, as I'm paying $165.
edited: oops, already posted this in the thread. still disheartening, as I bought my printer from this MM and continue to purchase plenty of materials from them as well, pay on time, etc.

guess you don't get the deals unless you bug the crap outta them.

I thought I'd throw this in for reference.

HP FB500 (CMYKcm)

Substrate usage 61,050.30 ft²
Substrate usage 5,671.79 m²
Ink family HP 792 total usage 40227 ml

Cartridge costs $585/3000ml (And that's with a 15% supplier discount. I'll take some of those $450 cartridges from above please!)

Ink usage ml/ft[SUP]2[/SUP] = 40227/61050= 0.659
Ink cost c/ml = 165/775 = 19.5c

TOTAL INK COST = 0.659 x 19.5 = 0.129 c/ft[SUP]2[/SUP] ($1.38/m[SUP]2[/SUP])

Ink cartridge costs are fairly similar between the printers, the lower total cost is probably more a function of the types of signs it's printing, ie. more simple corflute signs with white backgrounds so less ink coverage.

Alternate Ink?

Does anyone know about alternate 26500 latex ink? I read that there is a provider called Blue-Mall Swiss and I tried Google without luck.

20cents is not the real cost for a sqm. the Price is minimum 4-5 times higher...to calculate is not the ink price important.....$120,- or $130,- do nothing else....

20cent sqm is only feasible with a solvent based Printer.

The 20cent sqm Latex Price is a big lie from HP or the user they can´t be calculate the effictive cost for the machine !!! :banghead:

.....so we can say.....is really care to buy for $120 or $130 latex cartrige

With the 3rd Generation of HP Latex you can save 10-20cent per sqm.
Anything else....is wishful thinking !!!

Wunder hi, cost of print being discussed is cost per square foot while you had mentioned that cost per square meter is higher, you live in metric, Square meter is roughly 9 square feet.... I am originally from Kiev, Ukraine - took me a while to get a hang of it :)
