Hologram ink?? Or what?

I've noticed a ton of Motocross Graphics kits lately coming out with holographic accents and print work, but I still to this day can't figure out how the heck they're doing it. It can't be on a Roland, so what are they using? They are NOT layered vinyl....We want nothing to do with motocross graphics, but I'm just curious about the actual holographic part.

Any ideas? I stole this random picture off google images to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

If it's under 12" wide that can be done on a Gerber Edge, if it's over 12" possibly a Summa DC series. Both have chrome foils that produce that look.

The CMYK printing is way too smooth to be summa DC -- gotta be something similar to solvent...maybe they're printing the hologram on a summa DC and somehow registering it and putting it on something like a roland for the CMYK over that?

There may not be any CMYK process printing there. What is pictured could be done with spot color foils on a Gerber or Summa, which would make a finished product that is that smooth.

I suppose now that you say that you may be right....All these kits have pretty easy design with solid colors and halftone fades for the most part.

They are printed wider than 12" on sheets as full kits so I'd assume it's something like the summa. Do they also have a

Now how about glitter? I've seen the same style kits with silver glitter looking ink. Is there also a glitter ribbon?

It's not full holographic vinyl tho...that I can tell. Many of these are on clear vinyl, the backside only shows hologram where the hologram print is.

So are there aftermarket ribbons for summa printers then? What brands and where do you get them? I've never seen the point in using one of the summa ribbon printers, but it's finally becoming clear that there IS actually a use for those things. LOL I'm not buying one, I'm just really curious now.
