How do I copy from one computer to another ?

I'm trying to move a bunch of fonts from work to the home computer.
I thought I could just copy and paste the group to a USB key and then take it home and do the same.

Problem is that when I copy them to the USB key it renames some of them to a name that starts with numbers. For instance, Jokerman is a font... it now shows as font name 5436_ _ _ _ instead of Jokerman. If I hover the mouse over the filename, it says that it's jokerman.

Do I have to rename all of them after I copy them, or is there a better way to transfer them ?

File names will vary but when installed, the font name should be read by windows and therefore read correctly. Try one to check

I would hook it up to your home network, or make it available remotely and use allsync and just sync the files you want. Then whenever you make changes to one of em it will update the other, such as fonts being installed...then your stuff will always match and if you are working on files at home you wont run into a problem of some fonts not being installed. Atleast thats how I have stuff set up between my house in chico and my parents house in the bay area. And it just automatically syncs when a file is updated. only downside is it does not save different revisions of files...

Renaming is kind of weird. I just put a file on USB named fonts. Copy and paste windows fonts to font file. Move to other computer copy and paste fonts into Windows font folder. Point programs to new fonts in folder. Easy. Only trouble with ones already there, when prompt comes up asking what to do with second ones say no don't paste duplicates.

Whenever you want to install fonts onto a Windows OS it is recommended tat you use the Windows Fonts Folder Installer in preference to copy/paste. This insures that your Windows registry doesn't get screwed up.

A font file name has nothing whatsoever to do with the font menu name. If you use the installer, as suggested, you will see the font menu names in the installer and be able to avoid duplications.

You can use a program called "FREE FONT RENAMER".

It's FREE and it's fully automatic, and it renames entire folders at once back to the original names . . .
