Hello,

I am deciding to revamp my front shop billboards & signs for better effective visual driveby attraction. Need afew ideas to get the idea going.

Am thinking of blowing up afew large font slogan such as - good quality , value for money. Things like that.

But before i implement. Would like to hear afew ideas or what do you advertise in front of your shop for better efficient? What will work and what will not.

Some people advertising outside their shop by showing what products they can offer.

Some by showing what machine or latest technology they on their shop front.

Some by afew slogan.

Which is a better option? What do potential customers really wants to see? What excite them and makes them want to enter your shop ?

Whats the experiences ?

We have large storefront windows that we hang banners from on the inside. We switch them out often to keep things changing. We're also going to start using Super Sucker banners. Apparently, you can't get the suction thingies anymore, but they're like huge suction cups that have pole extensions so banners can be hung perpendicular to the building.

As for what we put on them, it depends on the season. With school starting, we're going to advertise to the HS kids and run a shirt special. And because people always walk in the door and ask if we make signs, we're gonna use the perpendicular banners to just get some color out there and say signs, and shirts and things like that.

Apparently uncut grass, an old 4x16 sign that's covered with a banner, flaking paint and a cluttered interior are the keys to success.

We're off the beaten path, down a dead end road so signage only helps people determine that they're at the right building. If you have BNI in your area look into it, I receive about 90% of my business through it either directly or indirectly, excluding emergency vehicle work.

Talk is cheap...NO SLOGANS...you're a sign shop, let your work do the talking. People like "eye candy"...visually stimulating stuff. Yeah, sex sells...but it shouldn't be used for a sign shop.

Ultimately, advertising activities should be driven by a marketing plan. It's important to have a rational plan where you send each dollar.

I really like this book:

Put up a blimp and let the people talk.

Best one is to put a huge spot light on your front lawn, shine it in the dark sky and people will just come to see what's going on. Give out free ice cream cones and popcorn with sodas and you'll make a bunch of friends real quick and they might even stop back to buy some signs.

"What you draw them with is what you'll have to hold them with"

That saying was given to me by a former administrator and it's stuck with me for many years.

In other words, if you always use gimmicks to draw a crowd, then you'll always have to go bigger and better each time you want to get noticed.

I know several "high end", high-priced businesses (who have cheap competition practically across the street) in my area who won't bow to that nature. And honestly I intend to do the same.

We use google adwords on a local basis at under $200/month. We also have a lot of word of mouth from our customers. We are in a downtown area and we do a lot of events down here so a lot of foot traffic. Location really helps.
