how to make a rope graphic

Hey guys, I'm looking for a little help.
I am trying to make a rope graphic and there was a how to, on this site.
I cannot find it. If someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Even easier (if you think you might need to make rope on occasion in Illustrator) is to just download some rope rope brushes for Illustrator. There are quite a few good free ones out there.
