how to make big dot halftones??

astute graphics phantasm is a great halftone plugin for illustrator with lots of control over the pattern

I was actually just looking at their plugins yesterday.

But I was looking more at the DynamicSketch one.

Yeh, they seem to have some interesting features and a combination of a few could turn your current Illustrator in to something not far off the latest CC version by the looks of it, but without a crazy subscription based payment.
