How to recover data from a hard drive (stuck heads: buzzing, clicking, etc)

No, that's not it, the IRS is under investigation for targeting Tea Party groups, and when they were asked to produce emails from the person who authorized the targeting, all of the sudden the IRS

tells Congress that a total of eight employees whose emails are sought in the congressional investigation experienced computer crashes, resulting in an unknown amount of lost data.

Excellent post. Have tossed many away out of frustration in years past.
On a side note, I have had 50/50 success putting them in a zip lock bag, then into the freezer for an hour. Have bought enough time doing this method to dump data to a fresh drive. Have even had a bag of ice over top to keep it cool during transfers while I sip on a beer
