Howdy from Phoenix

I'm a begrizzled semi-old pinstriper in Phoenix. I've been slingin' paint for about 24 yrs. & I'm still having fun. I got interested in striping back in high school--I had a 52' panhead that I took to Von Dutch to paint. At that time (1971) Dutch was working out of a bike shop (Ed's County Cycle on Cave Creek Rd.) He painted, flamed, striped & lettered my bike for $80.00! I hung around his shop when I could -watching & listening to his stories. Later on Ed "Big Daddy" Roth invited me up to Kim Deddicks' sign shop in Fullerton,Ca. where I got to know him as a friend and started to really appreciate hand lettering.Unfortunately I never pursued lettering because I never felt like I had the knack for it. So now I'm going back to give it the "old college try".I appreciate all the old timers & craftsmen (and craftswomen) who take the time to share their knowledge. I stripe under the name "Slow" , and would be glad to share my knowledge with any one interested.

Welcome Aboard!...Again. Looks like you had some good mentoring goin on when Ed and Ken were around! I never knew Ken personally, however I did know Ed and got to work on a couple collaborated efforts with him. I've never been a good striper so I don't do much of it. I always stayed mostly to the lettering end.....Anyway...Hi!:Welcome: 2 :signs101:

Howdy THATgirl; yes I do know Bob Burns ! He made a replica wooden flying eyeball for me about 10 or 15 yrs. ago. He also gave me a metal flying eyeball pin that he made up for all the people that knew Dutch personally. He knows me by my nickname "Slow". Last time I saw Bob was in Prescott -He was working on a plaque to deliver to Dutch -signed by a great many pin stripers -thanking him for making our jobs possible. Thanks for the nice welcome !
