HP 360 Service Contract

Hello all - looking for those of you that may have put their large format HP printers on the extend service contracts. What has been your experience with the coverage for parts and labor? Was it worth the monthly cost?

It depends on your contract - if you get it from HP or custom by some dealer, how far are you, how much you print etc.

You should think it like a insurance, just on the more expensive side. Insurance company always wins, most people pay more than they gain but someone always gets the $5k service call.

I personally don't think it's worth it with L360. The money you pay in a year for the contract can buy a lot of parts and labor.

We have the extended warranty and feel it is worth it. We believe a major question to ask is how close is a repairman or repair facility or are you able to repair yourself? We have never been down more than a day or two mostly waiting for parts to arrive then repairman shows up same day. We are able to repair ourselves but time becomes the issue. So much work can be accomplished doing other tasks while repairman does his.

Latex 360 is garbage. We bought two, one for each of our locations, and they are not-so-cheap pieces of plastic. Within 3 years we had spent approx. half the purchase price to fix both. We finally bought a couple of Epsons and couldn't even sell one of the HPs when the scan-axis motor blew and we weren't putting anymore money back into that piece of junk.

Sorry for your issues. We have not had that same experience. Purchased ours in April/2016 demo at sign show. Heater fan replaced - one day, print head carriage replaced - one day, and belt replaced (this one took 2 days to get part) all under warranty. It runs pretty much non stop daily five days a week. We love it, our bank account loves it and our customers love the product we put out. As with any equipment, technology or brand, you will get the lovers and the haters. Pick what works best for your shop and your situation.

I don't have the 360 but do have other HPs. I have been using HPs for about 15+ years. After the original warranties ran out I fixed them myself. It's not difficult, just time consuming for some fixes, especially if you're not doing it a lot. Then I switched to extended warranties on refurbs I bought from dealers. I would say it saved me money and time. Plus I wasn't play tech guy, which I hate. It does make a difference who your techs would be and how close they are. For us it's usually no more than a day or two.

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
Service contracts are never, as in ever, worth the cost. Speaking as someone who used to price service contracts [for HP of all places] I can attest to the fact that at least as much revenue is generated by service contracts as with the products themselves. Without going into excruciating detail, suffice it to say that the service contract provider is betting that you won't do as much violence, in parts and labor, as they're charging you for the service contract. On average it's cheaper to merely pay for maintenance than to pay for a service contract. By a long shot.
