Hp Latex 360 - 86:01 error, DIY gone wrong.

Hello,
The tech replaced the scan axis motor and the main belt (the belt broke), the machine worked fine for a couple of days, next it spit out 86:01 error, i replaced the encoder strip and the encoder sensor myslef, now the carriage moves left and right 2 inches and spits out the error.
In diagnostics menu the scan axis test won't finish, it does the same short left right movement and thats it. On the second test i get FAIL homing scan axis, and this is the one hint the machine gives me on what could be wrong. I'm trying to fix the machine myslef because the tech took 2000$ for the belt and motor replacement and i'm fed up with the costs.
Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like it can't sense its own head carriage movement - like there's an issue with the encoder reader.
Maybe you put it (the strip) back incorrectly fed through the carriage. (I hope you didn;t kink the encoder strip.)

How did you fix this problem? I'm having a similar issue on my HP Latex 335

One very common issue is that the belt is not properly installed. And even on a new one you can get a bad unit where the bearings on the tensioner could be bad.
