HP Latex Printer arrives Monday, question on venting heat?

I'm planning out the space and hope to keep the room a little cooler by directing some heat up through the ceiling to my already blazing hot loft... Are there any ports where the bulk of the heat escapes, that ducting could be used? ...or does the whole darn thing just emanate heat like a furnace?

From what I understand and have heard people say, the whole thing is basically like a heater. Hell - when we replace our furnace I might just say screw it and buy an HP Latex :)

If I had to narrow down the heat source to one specific area, I would say the curing area under the window, where the substrate exits the print path.

the machine is a furnace but i not noticed anything much from it on the outside.

nosiey fans will be more of a concern in a house

so L26500? or the older one?

L25500, in an industrial warehouse.

I pulled the trigger on the last day of the last sale, and instead of shipping 2 days later as promised, I learned that more printers were sold than existed.. and with no new production, that meant some people would get screwed.

My distributor's email just said "shipping delay, no further info avail."

...I called him and said I don't need "further info" ...I can see the writing on the wall... some folks are gonna get screwed.. I've been a loyal custy for a decade.. MAKE SURE I AIN'T ONE OF THE ONES...

..to his credit, he called back and said there was still a shipping delay, but my call was to assure me my name is on one of the printers... and that several other calls he had to make that morning were to people getting screwed... (he was mad too, because HP let this happen, and made vendors look bad, when they don't stock inventory of printers and have to rely on HP info)

...anyway just thought I'd share that little backstory

I started another thread when I paid my deposit, but even after the call above, I stopped my buildout & decided to "believe it when I see it' ..or at least see the tracking number! Now I'm finally talking about it again because I got my tracking number this week & I'm planning out the room!

mine is in a small warehouse style building in cold uk.. we are on week 3-4 now. So far so good, not too many problems.

The media ideally needs to be at the same conditions as the printer, currently its night at my tempreture is 17 deg C and 69% RH, it should be nearer 20deg to be honest and Humidity isn't too bad at the moment but this morning it was damp.

The main issue is curling of the media, they can head strike, so putting in the machine takes some learning.

The other issue is the tempreture difference, if its nearer cooking temp of 100deg, then less curls in the final media.

Profiles that are on the HP website, they are a bit random, colour has not really been an issue but more of the cooking settings, the LG ones were at max tempreture which didn't work very well in the machine.

Hey Dave do you mind telling me what settings are you using for LG polymeric?
I'm having a bit of trouble getting it to dry without melting the backing.

both of mine will be here monday as well. they were supposed to be here today. but you know how fedex does! they screw EVERYTHING UP! idiots. (why the HELL did they ship fed ex freight instead of a REAL freight carrier?)

but yeah, its a full month and a week AFTER i ordered them before ill have them. i went through the same thing as you. LAME.

there's really no one spot you can vent that I can think of... unless you can enshroud the entire printer and duct it to the 2nd floor lol.

It sort of radiates most of it's heat under the curing 'grill' as mentioned previously.

maybe you can direct more of your heating to the 2nd floor, and rely more on the hp to 'heat' the 1st floor?

It doesn't really seem to throw off much heat although we have a large shop with high ceilings and a/c.
You might find it different in a confined space, in a warm environment and no aircon.

You can't really duct the printer effectively, you just have to provide a little general ventilation to the room if you think it's needed. The printer really isn't that bad with the heat, it's just a little surprising compared to any other type of printer. When my shop was on the fringe of being unbearably hot in the summer and I turned the printer on, it would put the room over the edge but now that winter is nearing and I'd welcome the heat from the printer, I hardly seem to even notice a difference when it's running.

got $3k for my cj-500 that leaves monday - can't wait for that either!

as far as the heat, i'll welcome it! it's getting cold.....

I'm about 36 hours away from delivery...
I will postpone locating the unit in it's final position until I complete some electrical work.

I also want to fork lift it to a second floor, but I haven't lined up a forklift & the trucking company isn't bringing one, so I'm planning to offload it into a different room that has a narrow door.. like 30" I think...

...can someone tell me what width the packing container will be?

We started up in April with an L25500. That means that we just went through one of the hottest summers in this regions recorded history. Our facility is ~ 2500 square feet and is air conditioned. The heat hasn't been a problem. Like most things, people tend to way overstate the issue. Yes, it has heaters and blowers, but it isn't a furnace. I wouldn't worry about venting it. If you have an air conditioned facility, you will probably not gain anything by venting, since you will be venting your cool air as well. I would equate the heat gain to having your oven on in your home. Not really that big a deal.

I didn't measure it, because we have a 12' wide roll up door, but as I recall it wasn't over 30".

Here is a shot of it being delivered, maybe you can gauge by that.
