I just want to print Crop Marks in Single Color Black

Having a heck of a time. It should be easy in Flexi :) So far, Crop marks only print designs that are in CMYK.

Simple task- single color black graphic with contour cut. Specs: Flexi 8.1v. Gerber Edge 2. Crop marks are graphtec type 1.

I did my design in single color Black Foil GCS-12, and I have tried:

First the Rip and Print Menu
1. Advanced- Labels and Marks- Color : I have tried Color- All, Black and Black_GCS-012.- (This menu lists foils).
2. Advanced- Countour- My cutter is listed- Registration Mark Graphtec Type 1 Automatic.- Good to go.

Second, in the Production Manager
1. Edge 2 - Setup Properties- Job Defaults- Click the Registration mark Icon: I have tried Color: All, and also Black. - Print Marks on this Page: Crop Mark.

2. In Default Job Property Menu- Clicking the Printer Icon, I have tried - Checking and unchecking Print Spot Colors Only. Not sure if it matters- but Process Foil Set: Process Pro.

NOTE: I have printed in CMYK many times- no problem with registration marks. There must be something I am missing after all this trial and error.

Thanks for looking.

So your printing only one foil and you don't want to have to load the process colors?

Why not just keep clicking ok? Tell it you loaded the process CMYK foils but just keep the black in there. I used to do it all the time for small run stickers that I didn't want to change color in composer so I would just load different foils and say it was the right color.

probably so as to not waste foil

I would maybe suggest something like cutting master to create the crop marks. Then separate to a cut and a print file. Then go in and change the print file so the crop marks are black only. Unfortunately flexi won't let you do the crop marks before you send like cutting master will.

Thanks Big Easy-

I tried keeping the black Foil- it ran the Process black first ( I reversed order to print black first) printing marks-and faint outline of my design. Then it ran the GCS-12 black foil- but the image is slightly blurred- because it got two blacks. The Marks are Fantastically clear and sharp- they only got the pass in process black.

I tried changing my image to black, and GCS-12. The issue seems to be that any crop mark made in Flexi has to be CMYK- which messes up a single foil color graphic?

why is it printing any of the artwork at all in process black if you have it set to spot black?

2ND THIS you should be able to print spot an CMYK together separately. I can do a logo with six spot colors and a full color gradient CMYK.
I still think the cutting master work around would still work. You could set everything in cutting master. Once you import the print file to flexi you can change the reg. marks to spot.

J Hill,

I am getting very close: For a sanity check I did the following:

Brand new blank File- Typed TEST- Assigned contour Cut. Assigned Black GCS 12 as Color. Checked All for Color of crop marks. - IN Production Mgr., I Reversed Print order for CMYK to- Black, Cyan, Magenta - Yellow Order. Checked only the Black Box.

Sent to Print-: Edge asked for Process Black GCP-812 ( I left in Black GCS-12). - Printed Crop marks perfect- no shadow of word test. Edge then asked for GCS-12- ( again, left in GCS-12). Printed TEST perfect.

Total graphic is perfect.... No double print of TEST...Check out the picture.

SOOOOOOO.....this tells me that Black for CMYK must be hiding in source design? I thought I assigned GCS-12 to my whole graphic- but other colors must be present-- now to figure out how to find and remove them...Thank you.

This will show you all colors in play by selecting each one or deselecting you can see what each color matches up to in your design.

It could be possible you are changing all the fills in flexi. and not changing any of the strokes. Maybe the CMYK is in the stroke.

this makes sense, since you say it prints a faint outline of the artwork along with the cropmarks

I still find it dumb you cant print crop marks and art in one pass with black spot

You didn't mention flexi in your statement. I was just letting you know if is possible just not the way he wants to do it.

J Hill and Big Easy- I think you guys are spot on. I did View- Filter: See picture. There looks like some CMYK color in the graphic?

I see my Spot color and Contour cut listed under RGB...

I can select similar color- but the whole object moves...I will have to adjust the graphic, and remove the CMYK color components.-

Thank you guys,.
