I was really high yesterday...

120' to be exact. We had a constant 30+ mph wind which made things more interesting, but otherwise the install went just as planned. We strapped each set to the front of the boom, and then the two guys on the catwalk hooked on to the letterset and held it while we backed off and drilled and bolted on. One issue we had was the boom was 126' working height, and we were 120' so it was fully extended with little wiggle room. The only way to move it was to drive it.. which was really fun from that height. Is it perfect? No, but from the highway it looks decent and client paid the balance this morning.

I can see that from my house.

How come mr big doesn't need a harness up there ?? Do they figure if he falls, he'll just keep bouncing til he gets to milwaukee ??

You don't need a harness on the catwalk I don't think.. to get up there you have to take a really small mine shaft looking elevator, and then climb a series of ladders.. you could get the harness caught on things doing all that I guess. Still made me nervous thinking I was going to get blown off.

He looks like he'd get caught on things anywhere he goes.

Job looks great !!! :thumb:

It's not really a catwalk is it? I think you're supposed to have a harness on, I would. My fatass would make a big splat
Looks good, was there power already up there that you tied into?

I HAVE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!

* How did you get the letters up there if the silo ladder is soo tight?
* How was the site evaluation done? leaning over the side or did you use the boom lift?
* 120' feet in that boom lift...... with 30 MPH wind..... What type of outriggers?
* how many pairs of drawers did you go through?

The wheels extend on the large booms which gives you a big footprint, no outriggers. I think around 80' and up they do this. They are also very heavy at the base, we have a 135' here that we are working on and it weighs 50k lbs.

Like notareal said, those booms are very heavy.

Client owns the lift and I did the site evaluation from the boom and catwalk. (It's actually a conveyer belt that move grain from one silo to the other) And yes, they would lean over the side to help push the drill because the lift would move back and forth and made putting pressure on the drill to get though the beams difficult.
Yes, power was already up there.
I explained how we got the letters up in the original post.
None... I wasn't scared... just regular ass sweat from it being 110F outside yesterday
